A Brazilian woman has been sentenced to a year in prison for stalking pop star Jungkook, a member of the band BTS, after repeatedly visiting his home in Seoul and ignoring authorities' orders to stay away.

According to the Seoul District Court ruling, the woman, whose identity has not been made public, began stalking the singer in December of last year. She tried to leave letters and photos on his doorstep, claiming that her actions were motivated by love for the 28-year-old artist.

Investigations revealed that on December 7, she first appeared at Jungkook's apartment, where she moved around the property, threw objects at the wall and stuffed letters through the gaps in the door. A few days later, she returned and rang the doorbell a whopping 133 times, an act that the court described as evidence of an extreme level of obsession.

The woman was arrested on December 13 after following a food delivery man into the property through a side gate. Although she was released the next day with a warning not to approach the singer's home again, she continued to ignore the order.

Due to her repeated behavior, police issued an emergency restraining order prohibiting her from coming within 100 meters of the property. However, her visits continued, leading to the case being referred to the prosecutor's office in February.

The court heard that the woman had visited the property around 22 times in total. Although she was found guilty, the judge imposed a suspended sentence, taking into account several mitigating circumstances and assessing that the risk of reoffending was not high.

In addition to the sentence, she is expected to be deported from South Korea if she fails to overturn the decision through the appeals process.

The case follows another similar incident in June last year, when a Chinese woman in her 30s was arrested in Seoul while trying to force her way into Jungkook's home just hours after he had completed his military service./ CNA
