For the period January-August, the number of patients treated in the public hospital service reached 215,884 patients, with a cost of ALL 81,763/patient. Compared to the same period last year, the total number of hospitalized patients increased by 7%.

The data were published in the report "Realization of financial monitoring indicators for the Ministry of Health and Social Protection for the 8th month of 2024".

A decrease was also noted in patients treated in psychiatric hospitals. The realized amount is 824 patients with a cost of ALL 693,238/patient. Compared to the same previous period, the number of hospitalizations in psychiatry has decreased by 46%.

But doctors claim that due to the high level of pollution, the lack of physical activity and the damage of malnutrition, there will be an upward trend for cardiac and neurological symptoms.

"Environmental pollution from car exhaust, pollution from the Lana river (septic river), garbage, etc., have a negative impact. If you add the damage that comes from nutrition, the lack of physical activity in the parks, these are all conditions that affect the health of the heart. In my perception, as an emergency physician, I see an increase in cardiac, neurological and respiratory symptoms", says emergency physician Ilir Allkja.

So the number of patients treated with radiotherapy reached 20,125 at a cost of ALL 50.31/patient. Compared to the same period of 2023, their number increased by 12%.

Patients treated with dialysis 136,986 sessions performed for the months of January-August at a cost of ALL 10,652/session. The number of sessions has increased by 3% compared to the same period in 2023.

Cataract patients treated 2,497 patients against the predicted 4,326, with a cost of 4,646 ALL/patient.

8.2 billion ALL are spent on the reimbursement of medicines

According to the data of the Indicator Monitoring report for the 8th month of 2024, 361,498 patients were treated with reimbursable drugs at a cost of 6,763 ALL/patient. Compared to years, their number has increased by 0.5%.

For the months of January-August 2024, 8.2 billion lek out of the planned 12.2 billion lek, or 68% of the annual plan, was spent on the reimbursement of drugs on the list.

52,237 patients have benefited from the reimbursed list of diabetes tablets, or 754 patients more than the same period last year, with a reimbursement of the tablets, worth 96.1 million ALL, or 34 million ALL more than the same period period last year.
