'Paracetamol Challenge' on TikTok/ New danger for young people

The 'paracetamol challenge' is a new trend on TikTok that is putting the health and lives of young people at risk.

This 'challenge', where young people take excessive doses of the common painkiller, risking liver failure and death, has prompted warnings from health ministries and European authorities.

The first media reports on the risk of the challenge appeared in the Netherlands on January 18, followed two days later by Belgium.

Since then, concern about this 'game' has spread across Europe. Media in Switzerland (January 31), France (February 5) and Germany (February 6) reported that pharmaceutical professionals and medical associations had raised the alarm about the potential dangers of the challenge.

That's because paracetamol is often available over-the-counter and is one of the most common painkillers. But in excess, it can cause irreversible liver damage, bleeding, brain damage and even death./CNA
