Prebiotics, probiotics and postbiotics!

Prebiotics, probiotics, and postbiotics all support your body's gut microflora.

Due to the confusion that exists I am trying to explain what each of them does so that you can get a complete clarification.

- Prebiotics: They are food for our good gut bacteria. Excellent sources of them are asparagus, green bananas, artichokes, various tubers, carrots, turnips, etc.

- Probiotics: They are the healthy bacteria that live in our intestines (lactobacilli). We need the normal balance of these to digest our food properly and not to have fungal, bacterial infections in the intestines, genial system, skin, etc.

- Postbiotics: Postbiotics are metabolites of probiotics, or compounds resulting from probiotic activity in the gut; fermentation.

As gut microbes consume prebiotic fibers, the result of fermentation or consumption is what is known as postbiotics.

It is your bacteria that eat and 'ferment' the prebiotic fibres. The postbiotics are then used as fuel for the cells in the intestinal wall and for the bacteria in your gut.

But what does your gut need?

The only way to know for sure what your gut needs is to have a functional lab test to see where you stand.

Pay attention :

- If you are overweight, and although you are on a diet you do not lose it, you probably have an imbalance of the intestinal flora.

- If you have insomnia, anxiety, joint pain, stomachache, period disorder, you probably have problems with the intestinal flora.

- If you are not able to normalize blood sugar values, blood pressure, you may have problems with your intestinal flora.

- If you suffer from yeast or other infections of the genital tract, you may have problems with your intestinal flora.

- If you have used antibiotics, your intestinal microflora has probably been destroyed.
