Breast cancer cases are increasing / Alarming figures in two villages of the
Oncologist, Jusilda Dervishi

An increased number of breast cancer cases have been observed this year.

This is confirmed by oncologist Jusilda Dervishi in Korça. It shows that generally there are more cases coming from rural areas.

"There is an increased number of people diagnosed with breast cancer this year. There are about 53 cases, 49 of which are women and 3 men. They are currently being treated with chemotherapy in the chemotherapy service at the hospital in Korça. Generally there are more cases coming from rural areas. Pojani and Zêmblak are the two villages from which we have the most cases, perhaps it is also related to the fact that they have a larger population compared to other villages," said Dervishi .

Recently there has been an awareness from people as they do more frequent examinations than they did years ago.

"The high number of cases is more related to the fact that they come to be diagnosed and to the fact that they are aware and do more frequent examinations than they did years ago, since in the previous years there were no ultrasounds, mammograms which currently are. We have ultrasound in the polyclinic and in the hospital, mobile mammography and polyclinic mammography are also being done," said Jusilda Dervishi.

As for the treatment of those affected by cancer, the doctor says that it was done in the right way and there was no shortage of treatments.

"The treatment is complete, we have had all chemotherapy drugs, we have had no shortages for patients with breast cancer and other tumor diseases. We have had no problems with the necessary medications for these patients. Awareness month is not only October, but ladies should be aware that echo should be done all the time and mammography at least once a year for ladies over 40 years old and ultrasound once every 6 months for ages over 20 years old to 75 years old.
