The ever-increasing influence of foreign languages, as well as the use of abbreviations in online communication, are significantly affecting the way of writing and expressing oneself in the Albanian language, especially among young people. Faced with this reality, the Albanian Language Competition has started in Shkodra, an activity that takes place simultaneously throughout the country, with the aim of promoting awareness and care for the mother tongue.

The Director of the Shkodra Local Education Office, Brisela Kadia, emphasized that protecting the purity of the Albanian language requires continuous commitment, noting that uncontrolled communication, especially on social networks and foreign languages, has a direct impact on its deformation.
"The main goal of the competition is the importance of the Albanian language. It is a national identity and through it values, messages are conveyed and students communicate with each other. Technological developments impose on us to teach our students to write every word of the Albanian language well so that no communication is impaired, even on social networks. Nowadays, preserving the Albanian language remains a challenge, therefore the goal of this competition remains the preservation of our language. The challenge also comes from the foreign languages ??that students speak a lot, therefore the need for the Albanian language and its preservation is an urgent need", said Kadija.

On the other hand, participating students acknowledge that the impact of technology and foreign languages ??is inevitable, but they express that such competitions and activities help them reflect and show more responsibility in the use of the Albanian language.
"It's the first time I've participated because it's a good experience. It's a bit of a problem to write Albanian correctly, also because of the foreign language. Language can be misunderstood through messages, so writing the language correctly is important," said a student.
"Preserving the Albanian language has become more difficult in recent years, not only because of abbreviations, the use of emojis, but also because of the use of English and its widespread use. I think our language is in danger," says one of the students.
"When we use a foreign language, many words are transformed. I think such competitions are necessary. I myself use foreign words, even though I know I shouldn't, but I think each of us should contribute," says another student.
The Albanian Language Competition in Shkodra is an initiative that has been organized for years and aims to strengthen students' connection with their native language, at a time when digital communication is rapidly transforming ways of expression and challenging the standard of the Albanian language. /CNA
