"The Guitars of Korça" unite generations and bring back the

The pedestrian area of ??the city of Korça was filled yesterday evening with the characteristic sounds of the guitar and Korça songs, transforming into an open stage where music brought together entire generations of artists.

The festive concert "Kitarat e Korça" brought together old serenaders, experienced guitarists and young singers, in a symbolic union of tradition with the energy of the new generation.

About 40 guitars were played simultaneously, creating a special and emotional atmosphere for the citizens and visitors who attended the concert.

This musical activity, which has now become a celebration for the city, was organized on the eve of the end-of-year holidays and brought attention to the rich cultural heritage of Korça, known for decades as the city of serenades and civic music.

Throughout the evening, the audience had the opportunity to listen to well-known Korça songs, instrumental guitar performances, as well as new pieces brought by the new generation of artists.

Pandeli Tasellari, a guitarist from Korça and one of the oldest serenaders, shared with the audience his memories from the years when serenades were an integral part of daily life in the city. He emphasizes that Korça has been and remains the cradle of the guitar and serenades, a tradition that was born and grew in the city's alleys and streets.

"Korça is the king of guitars and serenades. We haven't left a single street in the city unheard of. We would gather ten people, sing serenades until late at night and then return home. The favorite serenade song was 'Dil në drinate'. There are many talented young people, but today serenades are no longer produced like they used to be. We used to go out at night, it became a kind of 'disease' for us. There are people who love music here in Korça, because Korça was the first in music, although the best professors we had left for Tirana."

One of the most special moments of the concert was the collaboration with the youth choir “Zë+”, which brought a diverse repertoire, combining choral songs, acapella pieces and musically based interpretations. Their performance gave the concert another dimension, enriching it with vocal harmonies and making the festive atmosphere even more sensitive. Although times have changed, the spirit of civic music continues to be present, thanks to the efforts of young artists who try to preserve and convey this heritage. Gledia Zhilla says that this experience was very special, especially due to the fact that it was the first time that the choir performed organized in an open public space.

"Today we have prepared some choral pieces, some based on karaoke and some acapella. We also have pieces dedicated to Christmas, so a diverse repertoire. For me it is very exciting, because it is the first time that we have this choir organized and moreover we are performing outside, on the city's pedestrian street. This gives us even more emotion. The Korçë audience is very warm and constantly supports us with applause."

The “Kitarat e Korças” concert turned into a festive evening for the city, proving that music remains a bridge between generations. The sounds of the guitar, new voices and the memories of old serenaders came together in a concert that recalled the musical identity of Korça and the importance of preserving this precious cultural tradition./ CNA
