DP MP and simultaneously chairwoman of the Culture and Tourism Committee, Ina Zhupa, has stated that she has requested an interpellation with the Minister of Culture, Blendi Gonxhe, on the project "Restoration and urban requalification of the TID perspective area in Durrës".
Zhupa states that this project has raised concerns regarding its impact on the current residents of the area in Durrës, the cultural heritage, as well as the manner of its development and the real impact on tourism.
She writes that more than 70 families living in the area where the project is planned to be implemented have been asked to leave, in order to free up space for the interventions envisaged by the TID project. Zhupa emphasizes that her priority is to protect the interests of citizens.
Full post:
In my capacity as the chairwoman of the Culture and Tourism Committee, I have requested an interpellation with Minister Blendi Gonxhe on the project "Restoration and urban requalification of the TID prospective area in Durrës", funded by the Albanian government, the Municipality of Durrës and the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF).
This project, although presented as an initiative for "tourist revitalization", has raised serious concerns regarding its impact on the current residents of the area in Durrës, the cultural heritage, as well as the manner of its development and the real impact on tourism.
Over 70 families living in the area where the project is planned to be implemented have been asked to leave, entering into an expropriation process, in order to free up space for the interventions envisaged by the TID project. These residents are legal owners, having inherited or benefited from the assets in accordance with Albanian legislation.
I have requested the interpellation to obtain public answers to a series of questions of a constitutional, legal, social and economic nature, which are related to:
1- Transparency and consultation with the beneficiary and affected community;
2- The project's relationship with the General Local Plan and with the legislation on cultural heritage;
3- Realistic assessment of the impact on tourism in relation to damage to the historical and social structure of the city;
4- The process of expropriations and compensation for residents, as well as guarantees for their property rights.
My priority and that of the Democratic Party will always be protecting the interests of citizens, enhancing cultural heritage and sustainable tourism that respects history and local residents. /CNA
