Zhupa accuses the government: The 2026 budget is in line with theft and

Democratic MP Ina Zhupa stated today that the government's propaganda that Albania has the highest budget is simply a parallel line with the level of corruption and theft committed by it.

Invited to "Syri TV", Zhupa focused on several aspects and figures, while adding that the budget that comes from citizens' money should go to health and education.

"In the government propaganda, we have, you will have heard it and from almost everyone, they have it as a speech, repeated by all the representatives of the majority, as they say that we have the highest budget ever of all time. And this statement actually contains two elements in itself. One, it contains the element of more taxes, more levies, more fines, more obligations taken from citizens, because the budget is not an invention. It is the money that comes from the citizens. And secondly, this larger budget goes in parallel with the level of corruption, with the level of theft.

It means the bigger the budget, the bigger the scope for these people to steal it, to make it part of the affairs, to do what they are, starting from schools that are built with seven times the budgets that the European Union builds. So when a school is built by the European Union in Albania, which has also built those that collapsed in the earthquake, it has built it for up to 750,000 euros, when a school is billed to be built by the Albanian government or municipalities, it goes up to 2.3 million euros.

And you say that I have a high budget, but in fact it is a stolen budget. Because if you look at the items that go for children, the items that go for families in need, the items that go for education, the items that go for people with disabilities, the items that go for healthcare, but when I say healthcare, not for the healthcare concessionaire, not for the concessionaire of... yes for medicines, but for equipment, but for reimbursement of medications, when you look at that, you see how little funds are made available for real, concrete things, so that people can receive a better quality service and can choose at the end of the day public education, public healthcare or even to stay in Albania.

I have actually compared, I had a discussion about it yesterday in the Assembly, the level of the education budget. So, the Rama government, when it came to power in 2013, there was a brochure that it printed then, a program, that it was the only time it had a program, that other times after that there was no program, it said 5% of the gross domestic product would be for education. Not that it has never achieved it, but from 2022 and taking into account this budget, but also the medium-term budget, the forecasts that they have made until 2027, 2028, it comes from 2.9 which was in 2022, to 2.7 which is now expected for 2026 and for 2028 2.1% of the budget, "said Zhupa./CNA
