Emigrant voting/ Celibashi: Around 120 thousand voters do not have biometric

The head of the CEC, Ilirjan Celibashi, in an online discussion about the Diaspora vote, explained how voters who do not have a biometric document will be dealt with. Celibashi said that people, both inside and outside the country, who do not possess a biometric document cannot vote.

The head of the CEC announced that there are about 120 thousand voters in the Diaspora who cannot vote for this reason. The CEC, Celibashi said, cannot offer a solution for this category.

" The category that has a non-biometric document cannot vote due to the law. According to Albanian law, an identification document is called a biometric passport and a biometric ID card. Any means of identification that was issued before the adoption of the law is not recognized. We as the CEC cannot do anything to offer a solution for this category.

"Those who do not have a biometric identification document are about 120 thousand. I understand that they are not few. It is important that we create opportunities for the majority of voters to vote. These voters would not be able to vote even if they lived in Albania ," said Celibashi./ CNA
