Prime Minister Edi Rama, at the press conference, was also asked about the situation in the Municipality of Tirana regarding management.

Focusing on the mayor arrested on 13 charges for 5 serious criminal offenses, Rama continued his defense of Veliaj, saying that he still does not know what Erion Veliaj has done.

He even said that he has not seen any corruption committed by Veliaj.

Rama said that he himself made an attempt to elect another mayor, but the Constitutional Court said that Tirana has a mayor. Rama further said that Veliaj should be released and take office.

" Locked in a cell without trial. Meanwhile, the search for evidence continues. I still haven't found out what he did specifically. I haven't seen corruption in the true sense of the word. Any citizen who is not part of criminal organizations and I'm not talking about a structured group, these are something else and of course for dangerous people there are many more reasons to think that detention is the right thing. Excluding cases of serious offenses, including corruption in flagrante delicto, all other cases must be very well-argued. The capital ends up in prison with the mayor, without trial, without anything. What are we going to do until the elections? It's been a year and a half. I tried to give Tirana a mayor, it didn't work. The Constitution said it has a mayor. Let the mayor go and do his job. If he is found guilty, he should serve his sentence ," Rama said.
