Transport of toxic waste and safety measures/ Hysaj casts strong doubts
Secretary for Public Relations in the Democratic Party, Jola Hysaj

The Secretary for Public Relations in the Democratic Party, Jola Hysaj, has raised the alarm about toxic waste in the Port of Durrës.

Hysaj said in an interview with Arnold Karriqi that there are great doubts about the transport of toxic waste and security measures.

She stated that despite the PD asking for information, she has not received any answer as to whether minutes were taken during the transportation of the waste.

The Secretary for Public Relations emphasized that it is not yet known what will happen to these remains, whether they will be buried or destroyed.

Excerpt from the statement:

What alarms us and in turn raises hundreds of thousands of other doubts, more than we had before, is the way they were transported and the security measures taken against them.

To our knowledge, a part of the municipal council has requested and made a letter to have more data regarding what is happening with these toxic wastes. Also, they asked to be present while being transported to Porto Romano. But there was no answer at any time.

On the other hand, we have no information whether what was requested was done, i.e. the presence of independent experts, since their presence would guarantee, to some extent, control over the contents of these containers.

So, there are many doubts and we don't know if the first minutes or others were kept in all the ports where these containers stopped, including the ship that brought them. We have no information on whether minutes were taken during their transport to Porto Romano.

We will continue to seek more and more information, but it is more and more difficult, as it often happens in Albania, when in everyday life we ??face attempts to block and silence related to investigation data. Under these conditions, the risk becomes even greater.

According to my knowledge, it was originally proposed that the disposal of these containers should be done in the open sea, not considering the damage to the ecosystem, to water, air and land.

It is currently thought that placing these containers in Porto Romano could be a temporary solution, although we still do not know what they contain and how high the degree of risk is for the citizens of Durrës and for those who live in the Porto Romano area. We do not know if they will be buried or destroyed silently, as has often happened in Durrës./ CNA
