The Deputy Mayor of Tirana Municipal Council, Dorian Teliti, today expressed the request that, given the situation in which the institution's management finds itself, a competition be opened for the election of the new mayor of Tirana Municipality.

In an interview on 'Syri Tv', Teliti stated that the request to discuss the status of the mayor was submitted 70 days ago.

Teliti added that the municipality's leadership is in an unconstitutional situation.

 "It has been almost 70 days since we submitted to the Municipal Council the request to discuss the status of the mayor, who is no longer in office, Erion Veliaj. We now know that he is no longer simply under investigation, but has been taken as a defendant by SPAK. We have a stagnation in the management of the Municipality of Tirana. The Municipality of Tirana should be an institution of high importance, which cannot be thought of and managed today in the conditions when we have a prime minister who performs the duties of the mayor, but in the meantime has commanded four ministers who also exercise the duties of the mayor. He has also commanded a deputy mayor, who today would be tested to assess whether or not she is worthy to continue in office.

We are in an unconstitutional situation and we demand the opening of the race for the election of the new mayor of Tirana. This race should be opened when the Municipal Council initially requests the dismissal of the mayor, which we have long requested in the meeting, but it has been denied to us by the left-wing councilors, who have not even put it on the agenda for discussion, despite the fact that this is our right to be discussed.

They are waiting for the order of the real mayor, the prime minister, who considers the Municipality of Tirana and every other municipality in the country as a single municipality. For him, Albania is one municipality. The political order is awaited. The day when early elections will be decided, then the Municipal Council will meet to reactivate both our and their request to dismiss Veliaj. To this day, it seems that Rama is not convinced to dismiss Veliaj.

The immediate dismissal of the mayor and the opening of the way for fair elections are necessary. We are not asking for them to leave and for us to come, because the citizens decide who will come. What we are asking for is for the citizens to decide who will come. We are in an absurd situation, where we have an honorable lady in a personal aspect, but in violation of the Constitution, who is acting in the direction of the affairs of the Municipality of Tirana, the case of Anuela Ristani. She only had a term of 3 months, while today, for 6 months, she has been at the head of Tirana as a person not elected by the citizens, simply a person who is being managed for political reasons", said Teliti. /CNA
