"The matter belongs to justice"/ Shehaj: Veliaj's legitimacy

The leader of the Opportunity Party, Agron Shehaj, declared today that Erion Veliaj's legitimacy as head of Tirana's municipality ended the day he was arrested.

Invited to the 'Now' show with journalist Erla Mëhilli, Shehaj stated that Veliaj's case now belongs to justice.

Shehaj said that in Albania, after the justice reform, a change is taking place.

 "Erion Veliaj's legitimacy as mayor of Tirana and his claims to return as mayor of Tirana ended the day Veliaj was arrested, the day we all saw the evidence that the prosecutors had and there is no doubt about it. This will continue, he has a trial, he has a matter with justice that belongs to justice and he himself must come out to defend himself from the prosecution's accusations.

This is one of the most corrupt countries in Europe. Until yesterday we had no justice at all, now there has been a reform in the justice system that is making a difference. Several politicians accused of corruption are either in prison, or under investigation, or have been charged with stealing from Albanians.

"All those who are accused say they are honest. There are two things: Either it is not true that this was a corrupt country and the politicians were the corrupt ones, or the prosecutors were so incompetent that they brought charges against those who were not very honest," said Agron Shehaj. /CNA
