The Deputy Chairman of the Tirana Municipal Council, Dorjan Teliti, said today that important issues should have been included in the agenda of today's municipal meeting, after Mayor Veliaj was declared innocent by SPAK.

In a television broadcast, Teliti stated that discussions and proposals should be made, such as Veliaj's dismissal from office.

Teliti emphasized that so far there is a significant lack of transparency in the municipality.

"The opposition's request for the legal and political status of Erion Veliaj should have been included in the agenda. After yesterday's development that Veliaj is a defendant in SPAK, his situation must be resolved. The Council must resolve it. We have heard various stories about dismissals by ministers, in violation of the law.

We also requested the exclusion of two acts of public consultation, we requested the establishment of the financial commission of the Municipality of Tirana. Today, many tricks made the establishment of this commission impossible. If they want to continue the non-transparency of Tirana for 2 years, it is the right path for them. For us, it is not for the citizens. They do not want the establishment of the commission, we will do our best to start the work of this commission, to expose the abuses in the Municipality of Tirana.

The Municipal Council should hold discussions on the situation, then make proposals for the mayor, which is to dismiss Erion Veliaj and pave the way for free and fair elections in the municipality. Our request has been filed for 2 months, let it be included in the agenda. Today it is unclear who is running the Municipality of Tirana. We have a stalemate, an inexplicable and abnormal situation. Normality comes with the elections for the Municipality of Tirana.

We have not seen anything concrete, as they are not being conducted in transparency. But interviews are being conducted, competitions that are not normal. We demand the implementation of the constitution and the law. Today, in the situation when ministers are meddling in the affairs of the municipality, it is beyond any standard that this happens in 2025", said Teliti. /CNA
