While a few days ago the media published news that the former US ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, had been removed from her post at the State Department, it was learned that the official is part of the delegation that is part of the negotiating group for talks between Turkey and Syria.

According to information, a delegation from the US Treasury Department, led by Anna Morris, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Combating Terrorist Financing, arrived in Turkey on July 20.

The purpose of the visit is to hold meetings with government officials from Turkey, Iraq and Syria, as well as representatives of financial institutions in Ankara and Istanbul.

According to a statement from the US Consulate General in Istanbul, the delegation's visit aims to explore ways to strengthen cooperation in the field of combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The statement also emphasizes that the American delegation will shed light during the meetings on President Donald Trump's decision to lift sanctions on Syria, as well as on the importance of engaging with the "maximum pressure" policy pursued by the US administration towards Iran.

The statement also adds that the US Treasury Department is ready to provide support to the new Syrian administration, aiming to strengthen the financial sector's capacity to cope with illicit activities. /CNA
