"How much will integrated waste management cost the public?"/ Minister

Minister of Environment, Sofjan Jaupaj, presented the draft law on waste management at today's meeting of the Committee on Natural Resources. He was asked by members of the Committee how much the draft law on waste management will cost the public.

The Minister said that the principle of waste management is that "the polluter pays", which is why certain costs are determined for citizens or local government units.

"We must agree with the principle of integrated waste management that the polluter pays. Therefore, costs are determined for both citizens and local government units and others," the minister said.   

Earlier in his speech, Jaupaj stated that a methodology will be developed to determine the costs for all waste management processes.

"Regarding costs, a methodology will be drafted for their determination for all processes so that there is transparency for citizens from local government units as to how much the fee that citizens will pay will be," the minister said. /CNA
