The Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka, today focused on Florjan Binaj's candidacy for the Municipality of Tirana, also supported by the DP.

Invited to A2CNN, Noka said that Binaj is considered an independent candidate, as he is not a member of any political party.

Noka said that in these elections, it is an achievement of the DP that the opposition united to support a name from civil society in the race for the leadership of the capital.

"Here in Albania, to be called independent, you have to make fun of the regime. But there is, here is Florjan Binaj, an accomplished figure, an architect and a well-known artist, who has increased his name and image by dealing with accusations outside of parties. An excellent civil society activist. Who has never been a member of any political party. So there are independents. We overcame ourselves, we did everything by stepping over ourselves to unite the opposition.

That it is the first time that all the opposition forces of the center and center-right have agreed to support a candidate. All the opposition forces are together against the narcos' candidates. This is an achievement of the DP. We had many candidates, but we decided to open a new era against the narcos. The opposition was able to unite in a consensual way around civil society candidates who are running as independents. Independent means not a member of political parties.

Our goal is to unite against the drug lords and in this goal we build a strategy on our journey, which made us escalate ourselves. We had enough potential to be a dignified competitor within the DP, maybe even a winner. But our goal is to go beyond the opposition, to maximize the inflows and outflows against the drug lords' candidates.

This is a political strategy, which has had an effect. Mr. Binaj's candidacy has been widely welcomed by the citizens of Tirana, beyond political parties. The Democrats have only one goal: to destroy the fortress of narcos that Lali Vjedhësi built. The Democrats are therefore different from the Rilindas. They understand better than anyone else.
