"No Albanian public university appears in the international rankings"/

The Vice President of the Democratic Party, Luciano Boçi, in a statement to the media from the blue headquarters, stated that this political force denounces the dramatic situation at the public university.

In his statement, Boçi points the finger at the government's wrong policies and the politicization of higher education for which the University of Tirana was left out of the rankings by "Times Higher Education".

" Thanks to the 'Rama government', Albania breaks another bad record: Public universities are left out of the Times world rankings.

The Democratic Party denounces with deep concern the dramatic state of higher education in the country, which has been openly exposed by the latest publication of the world university rankings by Times Higher Education (THE), on October 9, 2025.

According to the World University Rankings 2026, no Albanian public university appears in the international rankings.

The University of Tirana, the country's largest public institution, has no ranking number and only has 'Reporter' status, which means it has submitted data but has not met the criteria to be classified.

This shocking fact is clear evidence of the Rama government's failure in the field of higher education and refutes the propaganda of the 'internationalization' of Albanian universities.

While the government boasts of 'reforms' and 'modernization', Albanian universities remain outside any international standards and invisible on the academic map of the world.

In the region, the University of Pristina is ranked 518th, while universities in Sarajevo, North Macedonia, and Serbia are also included in the ranking.

This shows that only Albania is rapidly falling behind in educational development standards.

The Democratic Party emphasizes that this situation is a direct consequence of:

•extreme politicization of higher education institutions;

•party-based and not merit-based appointments of university leaders;

•lack of real scientific research and transparent funding;

•as well as the destruction of university autonomy due to the interventions of the Rama government.

The government's propaganda for 'internationally recognized degrees' is a deception for Albanian students and families, who are paying increasingly higher prices for degrees with no real value in the global job market.

The Democratic Party calls on the government to stop the propaganda and face reality:

Albanian education is in complete collapse and requires urgent national reform, based on merit, quality, and transparency.

"The DP reaffirms its commitment to true university autonomy, sustainable funding of scientific research, and the return of European standards to Albanian higher education," Boçi declared./ CNA
