Report on the May 11 elections/Kaso: OSCE/ODIHR observers reflected the real

Democratic Party MP Ivi Kaso commented this evening on the final OSCE/ODIHR report on the May 11 parliamentary elections.

Invited to Syri TV, Kaso stated that the violations of the Electoral Code by Prime Minister Edi Rama or the Socialist Party were openly in violation of the law and were ascertained by the OSCE/ODIHR observers themselves. He said that their work should be commended as they stated that they reflected the real situation in their report.

Kaso further added that the opposition's task is to analyze all the findings and turn them into proposals on how elections in Albania can return to standards accepted by the international community.

"Two days before the elections, Rama decided to forgive the fines, or openly violate the Electoral Code and send pension bonuses to pensioners at home. These are violations that have been rightly observed and have been so contrary to the law that there was little room for discussion, whether to include them in the report or not."

On the other hand, the presence of organized crime in the voting centers, which threatened the opposition deputies. Or of other bandits, especially in Fier, Elbasan, Shkodra, who would stand guard in front of the voting center and decide who would enter or not, are findings that they have seen with their own eyes. Their integrity is to be commended, because everything they have seen, the real picture of the situation, they have presented in the report.

We have a duty, on the one hand, to analyze all the findings and turn them into proposals on how elections in Albania can return to standards accepted by the international community, so that Albanians can finally have the opportunity to choose. And on the other hand, to create that positive pressure on the majority, so that it can sit down, implement them and turn them into legal provisions, into tasks for law enforcement agencies and bodies.

"If we expect the majority to become aware that they should not steal votes, that they should not use the machinery of power they have to manipulate the elections, then this is an illusion for all Albanians ," Kaso said. /CNA
