Since 1995/ Albania marks 30 years of membership in the Council of Europe

This Sunday marks the 30th anniversary of Albania's membership in the Council of Europe.

The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, through a commemorative post on social networks, emphasizes that since its membership on July 13, 1995, Albania has continued on the path towards strengthening human rights, democracy and the rule of law, as essential values that embody both the Council of Europe and the country's European journey.

On this anniversary, as emphasized by the institution, it is a moment for reflection on the progress made so far and the reaffirmation of Albania's unwavering commitment to these shared principles.

In 1995, Albania was not part of the European Union Commission. However, on 13 July 1995, Albania became a full member of the Council of Europe. This marked an important step in Albania's transition towards democratic values and European integration. While Albania applied for EU membership on 28 April 2009 and became an official candidate in June 2014, the country was not included in the EU Commission in 1995./CNA
