During his participation in the Dubrovnik Forum 2025, Albania's Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, conveyed a clear and firm message: The Western Balkans can no longer be treated as the periphery of the continent; it is an essential part of Europe's strategic future.

In the presence of senior representatives from the region, Europe and beyond, including the US, the Gulf, Brazil and Africa, Minister Hasani stressed that in times of uncertainty and geopolitical rivalries, trust, transparency and transformation are not choices, they are necessities.

Minister Hasani underlined that Albania has opened four negotiating chapters – including the foundation chapters and the internal market, and that the path towards the EU is strategic, irreversible and based on sustainable reforms. He said that delays in the enlargement process create gaps that are exploited by authoritarian actors, welcoming the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans as a concrete opportunity to accelerate integration.

 

“ Albania is not a security consumer – it is a contributor. We are not waiting – we are moving forward. Europe will not be complete without the Western Balkans. And the Western Balkans will not be complete without a worthy place in the European family ,” Hasani said.
