Rama, message to mayors: The role of institutions is important for European

Prime Minister Edi Rama, in addition to the occasional discussions at today's meeting with the country's mayors, also focused on Albania's EU integration process.

In his speech, Rama emphasized that the role of municipalities is very important, as a small nucleus of governance, as the country continues its steps towards membership.

Rama reminded the mayors that they must take care of the substantive side of public coexistence and guarantee the fundamental relationship between citizens and institutions.

"It is very important that everything we have talked about during the day, related to a series of standards, relations with citizens, and governance, be brought closer as quickly as possible to what is considered the average for a country like ours in Europe."

It is very important that the Municipality has a core, no matter how small, that serves the Municipality, because all levels must also begin to adapt to this process internally, where municipal councils are an indispensable part.

We have gone from the phase when we wanted to get closer to the EU, to the phase when we have the door open, and we have to prove that we are well dressed, well trained, well educated, and worthy of sitting at that table.

"When we say well-dressed, I mean what I said today, the not superficial appearance, but the substantive one of coexistence in the public space, which is a fundamental thing and the capacities to guarantee these relationships between institutions and citizens," said Rama./CNA
