Clashes over Tirana Municipality/Citadel: Rama-Veliaj situation as in a criminal

Democratic Party candidate for deputy, Adriana Kalaja, said today that the situation created between Mayor Erion Veliaj and Prime Minister Edi Rama is like that of criminal and mafia organizations.

In a television appearance, Kalaja said that regardless of the status of the case, Erion Veliaj is still legally Mayor, while Rama will assume all powers.

Kalaja said that, regarding the 'war' for the Municipality of Tirana, the DP aims to restore the rule of law and this will happen after May 11.

"What is happening between the mayor, who is in custody at Durres prison, and Prime Minister Rama is typical of what happens within a criminal, mafia organization."

Meanwhile, legally, whether I like it or not, the mayor is Erion Veliaj. The powers of local government are independent of the central government, regardless of the strength that a prime minister of the country represents and regardless of the real strength that, for the sake of truth, Edi Rama holds to seize all powers.

We saw that whole shameful show in Skanderbeg Square, which for the sake of truth even the Central Election Commission called a violation, because a prime minister cannot go and take over the powers of a local government.

You know very well my point of view and point of view on what Erion Veliaj represents and where Erion Veliaj should stand, but the law is the law. We as the DP, from the beginning, have been for the restoration of the state because in fact in 2013 we did not have a justice system with problems, but a functional justice system.
