The candidate for the Municipality of Tirana, Lajla Përnaska, held a useful meeting today with OSCE/ODHIR representatives, who are engaged in monitoring the election process on May 14.

Përnaska emphasized that " the electoral system in force, even though there is a space for independent candidacy, the mechanism is complicated and prevents the inclusion of candidates with this status.

The problems and concerns of the process for these local elections are also related to the fact that it is an unequal competition between candidates of different status, also for support with electoral infrastructure, with access to CEC funds, as well as access to the media."

The PDIU candidate told the OSCE/ODIHR representatives that "the electronic system should be applied as soon as possible in Albania".

"Today there is less democracy in our political parties and in our system than in the 90s, at the beginning of democracy in the country. While the Albania of 2023 must be an Albania with electoral standards" , she declared further.
