The MP of the Freedom Party, Monika Kryemadhi, stated in "Now with Erla Mëhillin" that Erion Veliaj lobbied against Rama in the USA. She said that if the latter had not been affected by the McGonigal case, Veliaj would not have been a candidate.

"If Rama had not been attacked by McGonigal, if the case had not come up, Erion Veliaj would not have been a candidate. I think that Erion Veliaj has a tremendous influence on the attacks that have been made against Edi Rama in America and there is strong lobbying of him, because Erion Veliaj thinks that he is the successor of Edi Rama, that is, the one who will take the Socialist Party very quickly," said Kryemadhi.

According to her, if Rama had not been attacked with the McGonigal case and felt strong enough, there would have been someone else as a candidate for mayor of Tirana.

Kryemadhi added that Rama's face is being used instead of Veliaj, as the latter is a hateful image for the citizens. In her view, the prime minister is using it so that in the event of victory, he will tell her that everything is forgiven by him, and on the contrary, tell him that he was so scum that even his image failed to give him another mandate as mayor./ Euronews Albania
