The leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has stated that he is convinced that 20 mandates will be won in the coalition with the opposition.

In an interview given to 'Syri Tv', Meta expressed with conviction that the opposition will achieve a landslide victory in the May 11 elections.

Regarding his candidacy on the list in the Tirana District, Meta said that this comes for principled, but also pragmatic reasons.

"There are some principled but also pragmatic reasons. Principled because I and the SMI were the first to oppose the closed lists that were approved with the Constitutional amendments of 2008 and for this we also went on a hunger strike, warning of the weakening of parliamentarism and accountability itself in the interest of strengthening autocracy, as time has proven.
Secondly, I believe that not only should I remain faithful to my convictions, but I also believe that in this way I set the best example for everyone, that extreme sacrifices are also needed for the Victory against the mafia in power.
Meanwhile, I am confident that our coalition has all the potential to win 20 mandates in the Tirana district and in this way to introduce 8 deputies from the open lists.
The names and personalities of the opposition in the open lists are extremely superior and mobilizing and represent a broad and significant spectrum", said Meta.

Asked what he thought of the Socialist Party's electoral list, Meta said that it is the list where Rama is favoring ministers.

"The "Rilindja" list in Tirana also bids farewell to those few socialist names that Rama had kept until now as "signs".
In the few mandates that Rama can get, he will favor the ministers he has on the open lists, telling the socialist candidates that the people did not vote for them.
There tomorrow in the opposition, he needs people who are only indebted to him because they will be MPs and so that the party does not get out of control", - said Meta. /CNA
