Prime Minister Edi Rama, at a meeting with teachers in Lushnje, spoke again about shutting down TikTok.

Rama said that talks have been held with the company, which has said that filters will be installed. The prime minister also expressed hope that consultations have also been held with parents, 95% of whom were in favor of the closure.

The Prime Minister has said that within a period of 10-15 days, the TikTok platform will be "blacked out".

 

"We decided to close it after consulting with 95 percent. It was a decision-making process where no socialist or democrat asked because they had their children in mind and 95 percent of parents and teachers said it should be closed. Of course, we made the decision to close it and in parallel we opened a dialogue with the company, we said that we will not allow Tiktok to continue to function and enter our families' homes like a scut with all those products that are unfiltered. We have nothing to do with you, in the sense, not anything ideological with you, but we want guarantees. For example, we have released a series of things, we have made them available to the company.

To be honest, they had a reaction that I didn't expect. They have been cooperative and have promised us that they will come up with a plan to set up a series of shields. For English, their algorithm manages to block certain words. For Albanian, they don't. And we are in contact with them. A group is working with them, so when they are ready, they will come to Albania and publicly tell parents what will change. The shutdown has begun, technically it is not like turning off the lights.
