Joint conference with Rama/Meloni: Albania is behaving like an EU member state

After exchanging signed agreements, Prime Minister Edi Rama and his counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, are holding a joint press conference.

Meloni stated during her speech that their meeting determined the sectors where cooperation between the two countries will continue, while adding that Corridor VIII receives special attention.

She stated that by signing the protocol, Albania is behaving as a member state of the European Union, while also speaking about the joint fight against illegal migration.

"We know that the relations between Italy and Albania have deep roots. They go beyond interests, we were moved by the passage of our plenary assembly with at least 20 ministers who took the floor speaking exclusively in Italian, without translation. Think about how Italy has been and is a point of reference for Albania. We want to turn the relationship into a treasure. Italy is Albania's first trading partner, we will place our relations on a deeper level. We have set aside another meeting to create a forum where companies will be represented.

We have defined the sectors where our cooperation will continue. Our attention is on Corridor VIII. We have discussed at length with Rama about the protocol with Albania, as what was shown in the signing of this protocol is that Albania is behaving as an EU member state. I believe that the protocol we have signed is deeply European in spirit, because migration is a European problem. A protocol that has aroused interest in many other countries. Many worked hard to stop it but did not succeed. This is what we can bring as the cooperation between us is mature" , said Meloni. /CNA
