Koçiu: 50 medications are added to the reimbursable list, free diabetes

The next government meeting took place on Wednesday.

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu stated that at today's meeting of the Council of Ministers, the new List of Reimbursable Medicines was approved, which includes new diagnoses for treatment according to the medication that patients receive from family doctors.

In the statement to journalists after the government meeting, Minister Koçiu emphasized that the list of reimbursable drugs has been expanded with a total of 1,345 alternative medicine drugs, from the current 1,191.

She announced that 50 new drugs and medications have been added to the list, of which 38 new active principles and 18 new dosage forms.

Minister Koçiu added that all the new drugs added to the List of Reimbursable Drugs are drugs that support even more all diagnoses and pathologies of oncological diseases, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, kidney diseases, bronchial asthma, pulmonary diseases.

Also, the Minister of Health announced the adoption of another important decision in support of all citizens affected by diabetes, expanding the reimbursement of diabetes strips for measuring blood sugar.

"Until today, we reimburse diabetes chips for all those patients who suffer from diabetes, from the age of 0-25 years, as well as for the elderly and pensioners over 65 years old. With the latest decision, we add coverage with free diabetes bands for two very important target groups, the disabled and the disabled. There are thousands of disabled people who suffer from diabetes and about 1,500 people with disabilities who will benefit from free diabetes kits", concluded the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu./ CNA
