The head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, in a conference with journalists, commented on the SPAK letter asking the Assembly for authorization to change the security measure for him.

Berisha has expressed that he is 100% in agreement with the procedure and that he will vote in favor in the Assembly.

"In 2012, Sali Berisha sent to the parliament the approval from the Constitution of any kind of protection of the deputies of the Assembly. This government law was categorically opposed by Edi Rama and only the investigation of the deputies was allowed. I am ready to vote for this myself law even today I have no objection. If I did not accept the court's order it is because it is a violation of the Constitution, I defended the parliament and not Sali Berisha. I refused to implement an unconstitutional order, but in terms of my consistency with the 2012 proposal it stands completely. I am for deputies not to have any kind of difference from other citizens, Ko is a completely normal request and I agree 100%. I defended the parliament, not Berisha. Now the parliament can decide what it wants," said the head of DP.

On Tuesday, the letter that the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, sent to the Assembly of Albania for the former prime minister Sali Berisha, was revealed.

The letter was sent today and was signed by the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani.

In the letter sent to the Assembly, it is written: "Request for authorization from the Assembly for the arrest and deprivation of freedom of the deputy through the replacement of the security measure".

"Based on Article 73 of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, Articles 231, 260, 288, 289 of the Criminal Code, as well as in the Regulations of the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, Articles 13 and 118, we are attaching the request for the granting of authorization by the Assembly of the Republic of Albania, for the arrest/removal of the freedom of the deputy Sali BERISHA, through the replacement of the coercive personal security measure by that of "Compulsion to appear before the judicial police", provided for by article 234 of the Criminal Code .Criminal and "Prohibition of leaving the country" provided by article 233 of the Criminal Code, in that of prison arrest/ house arrest, provided for by articles 238/237 of the Criminal Code, in the framework of criminal proceedings no. 287 of 2020, of the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime in Tirana.
