Fajon: The EU should accept Albania until 2030 at the latest
Tanja Fajon, Foreign Minister of Slovenia. Igli Hasani, Foreign Minister of Albania

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, in her speech at the joint conference with her counterpart from Albania, Igli Hasani, declared that the Slovenian consulate will be opened in Durrës next year.

Focusing on the desire and need for the intensification of Albania-Slovenia relations, Fajon said that air connections should be established between the two countries in the future.

She emphasized that the cooperation between the two countries is focused on different fields, but the economic field occupies the main place.

The latter stated that Slovenia is part of many development projects in Albania, while it focused on the technical assistance offered to Albania for European integration.

Fajon guaranteed that Slovenia will be a sure supporter of Albania's integration into the EU.

"Slovenia in the north and Albania in the south of the region are close allies. We will have further cooperation in the field of economy, he expresses his readiness to sign future memoranda and protocols. The memorandum of understanding on tourism will promote cooperation in this field. Undoubtedly, we need to create more air links in the future. We will have our consulate in Durrës next year...9.91 Slovenia is a supporter of the entire Western Balkan region and we would like to see Albania as a member of the EU. Slovenia is an exponent of the opening of negotiations and has always expressed its appreciation for all achievements so far in the implementation of all criteria. My message today is that I hope that Albania will have the opportunity to open the first group and we hope that in September we will have a positive answer for the pre-financing of all the necessary reforms...Slovenia will be a sure supporter for EU integration, it is a strategic need to have your place in the region. I hope that the EU will be ready to wait for the maximum in 2030", she said.

Meanwhile, Minister Igli Hasani said that, among other things, they also discussed the journey towards a united Europe.

Hasani: The Albanian government has worked hard to implement the reforms required for EU membership

"Albania has taken important steps in fulfilling the necessary reforms. The Albanian government has worked hard for the implementation of the reforms required for membership in the European Union, especially in the judicial reform where the vetting of judges and prosecutors and the creation of new legal institutions are deeply positive. While full and consistent implementation is essential. The fight against corruption and organized crime has marked a significant progress, where there are also cases of high profits, but also the consolidation of the independent and efficient justice system. Achievements in these areas make Albania's progress tangible and visible," he said./CNA
