"January 21" case/ Berisha does not appear in SPAK

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, did not appear today at the Special Prosecution Office after being summoned in connection with the “January 21” case. According to reports, the Parliament has stated that the SPAK summons sent to Berisha has not been withdrawn by the DP Parliamentary Group.

A day ago, Berisha said that he had not received such a summons. Regarding the "January 21" issue, he stated that the obstruction of the "January 21" investigation was done by Edi Rama and has been used for propaganda for 13 years.

"I have responded to every summons my entire life. It is normal that I will respond, but there is only one condition that I receive summons. Those who use it for propaganda show that they are miserable servants of a gang that robs Albanian citizens day and night. I have responded to every summons," said Berisha.

We recall that Berisha was summoned as a person in knowledge of the file of the January 21, 2011 event. The DP leader held the post of prime minister during the demonstration of January 21, 2011, when 4 people were killed and several others were injured on the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard. 

"For the purposes of the investigation, by order dated 03.11.2025 "On the summoning of the citizen", the summoning of the citizen Sali Berisha, son of Ramë and Shiqere, born on 15.10.1944, of Albanian nationality and citizenship, born in Tirana and resident in Municipal Unit no. 2 Tirana, has been ordered, to appear at the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime, with the aim of questioning him in the capacity of a person who indicates circumstances useful for the investigation, in relation to criminal proceedings no. 138 of 2024, specifically regarding the circumstances of the investigation related to the event of January 21, 2011",  the summons stated. /CNA
