The head of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, was present today at the meeting of the Mandates Council, where the issue of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku was reviewed.

It is learned that Balla has intervened several times in the discussions held, bringing to attention previous precedents of the Assembly.

Balla recalled that there have been cases when the Mandates Council has taken up to 75 days to review a request, specifically mentioning the case of former Minister Lulzim Basha, regarding the issue of the Durrës-Kukës road.

Balla is reported to have stated that the request regarding that case had arrived at the Assembly on October 15, 2007 and was voted on in plenary session only on December 27, 2007, which proves that the Assembly has previously followed lengthy procedures in sensitive and politically weighty cases.

The Mandates Council decided today to postpone the meeting, without yet coming to a conclusion, which will likely lead to setting another date./ CNA
