400 families homeless from the earthquake/ Zhulali: It is an insult to discuss

The Democratic Party's councilor in the Tirana Municipal Council, Ilda Zhulali, spoke today regarding the budget approved yesterday by this council. 

Invited to A2 CNN, Zhulali said that this municipality has a number of priority issues, such as the case of 400 families in Tirana who were left homeless by the 2019 earthquake.

Zhulali stated that amidst these problems, it is unacceptable to discuss whether the arrested mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, should receive his salary.

"We had families who were affected by the 2019 earthquake, but who are still going from one office to another and not receiving answers to their concerns. And what came out of that hearing, which is a reality that no one talks about and is terrible, is that there are at least 400 families in Tirana who failed to apply on time in 2020 when a government portal for new housing was opened or were in processes where these buildings had to be evaluated once again whether they should be demolished or not."

Now, since this system has been closed since 2020 by the government, they cannot apply for a new apartment, that is, from the reconstruction process, but they cannot benefit from the rental bonus either and no one gives them any direction. The municipality is not honest and truthful with the residents either, they are told that we will solve it and no one says what solution will be given to them.

"It is unacceptable and for me it is an insult to discuss whether Mr. Veliaj should receive a salary. Mr. Veliaj should resign and not only that, he should have been dismissed from the Municipal Council for serious legal violations," said Zhulali. /CNA
