The former foreign minister, Ditmir Bushati, has viewed with skepticism the statement of the French president, Emmanuel Macron, about Albania's membership in the EU.

Unlike Macron, who said that the fixed date is not important, Bushati expressed the opposite.

He stated in a television interview that the date is a kind of deadline that motivates both sides to do their homework, while he described our country as a "bad student".

"The date is very important as it is a kind of deadline. This is very important for the tasks that both parties have to do. First, the host of the EU show and the guest who intends to be in the EU. I think the dates are motivating that we are not good students, we don't have local ownership over the reforms. Because if we had local ownership of the reforms, if we were Swiss, Norwegian, Europe could be the 100th topic, or the EU would beg us as those two countries have begged. In this context, Charles Michel's declaration of a date is important I think, but the date must be turned into a concrete plan.
