"The EU must find us ready"/ Rama to farmers: There is no lack of

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during his speech at the meeting with farmers and agricultural entrepreneurs, stated that they should seek more financial support for their projects.

Rama stressed that the problem is not money but the lack of projects. He further added that municipalities should be put under positive pressure regarding rural development and supporting farmers.

“We need to build the right projects, the right partnerships and we just need to disburse so that there is much more money in your hands to invest in the farm and in increasing standards and quality. The EU comes as a blessing for those who are prepared and as a curse for those who are not ready. The demand for safety standards and quality is not simply present at every step but is accompanied by very strict control instruments that will take you out of the market. But four years are enough to prepare and that day will find you ready. I would ask you to be more active in seeking financial support because the instruments are there. It is the state budget, the Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development, the new financing line of the Bank of Albania. But again we find ourselves in a situation where the problem is not in money but in projects. The problem is not the government's power to support the growth of entrepreneurship in agriculture but in the lack of an active entrepreneurship in seeking funds with the right projects. These things are done with the right alliances, not by themselves. Municipalities must be placed in a positive pressure in terms of rural development, support for farmers.

Even today, mayors in most cases see the village only to do the municipal works of the city. All of these are important, but the most important thing about the village is the land that produces and what is on the land. This is a word for what we as a government have prepared for the village and for you. We have escaped from the time when people rushed through the streets to sell their produce. That world where we want to be a part has flown away. Therefore, we must become ambitious by demanding more from ourselves,” said Rama. /CNA
