Balla: We aim to close the agreement with the EU before Christmas 2027

Minister of State, Taulant Balla, delivered a message to the Parliament today on Albania's progress towards membership in the European Union, citing very positive assessments. 

"If we were to refer to the approval of yesterday's report in the European Parliament's foreign policy committee and the words of the initiator or drafter of the report, Albania's good friend, Andreas Schieder, who said: 'Albania can proudly be called one of the main favorites among the candidate countries for EU membership.' That says it all," Balla declared. 

Referring to the concrete expectations of the Albanian government, Balla informed the deputies about the ambitious objectives that have been set for the conclusion of the membership negotiations.

"I also want to inform the Assembly of our expectations regarding the conclusion of this process. We aim to open all chapters within this month and close the agreement before Christmas 2027. And when we come to the Assembly to present the budget for 2028, we will have concluded all chapters of the membership agreement and move forward with the ratification process by the member states," said Balla. 

Balla expressed appreciation to rapporteur Schieder, as an encouraging signal that reflects the country's seriousness and commitment to fulfilling the conditions for full EU membership. /CNA
