KAS rejects DP's request for invalidation of elections in Kukës

The Complaints and Sanctions Commission (KAS) held a session this Thursday to review the Democratic Party's appeal regarding the results of the May 11 elections in the Kukës region. The DP had requested the invalidation of the results and the organization of a re-run, arguing that the process had irregularities that affected the outcome of the elections.

At the end of the review, the KAS decided to reject the DP's request, arguing the decision with the lack of necessary evidence to change the result. Consequently, the votes will not be recounted and the result remains unchanged.

KAS representatives emphasized that the institution's task is to analyze the facts and verify the claims presented. According to them, not enough evidence was found to justify the invalidity of the result or a re-vote in this district.

"Our task as a body was not to determine whether all the facts presented in the hearings were true or not. Our task was to identify, among the multitude of facts, those facts that are related to the request for invalidation of the elections. For the latter, we had to verify whether their truthfulness was proven. After that, we would verify how much they influenced the election result. Our decision should not be based on hypotheses, but on evidence. We have decided to dismiss the appeal number 37, for the electoral subject PD-ASHM, for the declaration of invalidity of the elections of 11.05.2025 in the Kukës area, as unsupported by law and evidence," said Ilirjan Rusmali.

In the May 11 elections, the DP secured two mandates, while the Socialist Party received one mandate./ CNA
