The EP Foreign Affairs Committee adopted today the report on Albania. The report highlights three main points:
-Accelerating reforms in the rule of law, anti-corruption and media freedom.
-Addressing political polarization and malign foreign influence.
- MEPs welcome Albania's objective to close accession negotiations by the end of 2027.
Among other things, the rapporteur for Albania, Andreas Schieder, emphasized continuing the path in the fight against corruption and strengthening the rule of law.
“Albania can proudly be called a ‘top contender’ among the candidates for EU membership. Partly due to the broad support of the Albanian population. But we are not yet at the finish line. It is essential to continue on this path with the same pace and commitment, fighting corruption and strengthening the rule of law. There must be a clear emphasis on expanding the economic model, creating jobs and improving the social welfare model, as well as on a comprehensive and inclusive electoral reform,” said rapporteur Andreas Schieder. /CNA
