Preparations for the new tourist season/ Koçiu from Berat: We have

This year, the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sports has taken measures to guarantee a safe and healthy tourist season for foreign vacationers and tourists who will choose to spend their holidays in our country.

The entire health system from Theth to Ksamil will be on standby throughout the summer season to guarantee the provision of services on time and as close as possible to tourists.

The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Albana Koçiu, together with the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, and the elected SP MP in Berat, Ervin Demo, presented in Berat the Summer Health Centers program, including the new Health Center in the Berat Castle.

Minister Koçiu during her speech emphasized the measures taken by all health structures in the country for the smooth running of the tourist season. "All structures must also be prepared to receive emergencies and surprises that bring every year, 700-800 thousand, up to 1 million visitors. The situation is the same throughout the country. Hospitals, the National Emergency and our entire health infrastructure do not only serve 2.5-3 million residents, but also the health needs that arise during the visit of 12-15 million tourists" - Koçiu explained.

The Minister of Health said that with the increase in the flow of tourists to the country and with the aim of providing services as close as possible to citizens, Summer Health Centers will continue to operate in the country this year.

"A year ago, thanks to the expansion of the map and the extension of the open stay time, from 3 to 4 months, the number of vacationers who benefited from assistance in the summer centers increased from 55 to 80 thousand. About a third of them were foreign vacationers. Based on this very successful experience, we will continue to provide service through the summer centers from Thethi, to Ksamil, and everywhere else, in the most frequented tourist spots of the country", - said Koçiu.

The Minister of Health underlined that from June 1 to September 30, 2025, we will have more summer centers in operation than ever before, 36 in total with the necessary life-saving equipment.

She also said that all the medical personnel who will serve professionally in these Centers are now ready.

"After a long recruitment process, 295 professionals were successfully selected who will provide uninterrupted service in 36 health centers. "We have almost "300 Spartans", among them 93 doctors, 129 nurses, 49 ambulance drivers and 24 paramedics, who will be placed on the front line, in the most frequented areas of the country" - said Minister Koçiu.

At the end of her speech, Minister Albana Koçiu emphasized that all these additional capacities strengthen our healthcare system, but they are not the only ones supporting vacationers.

"Our entire health system, with hospital centers, regional and municipal hospitals, as well as 400 completely renovated health centers, responds to the reality of a tourism that no longer develops only in a few key points or only for 2-3 months a year, but a tourism sector developed throughout the territory and active throughout the year," concluded the Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu.

Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, said that "in Albania we have welcomed 5 million visitors or 1 million more than in 2023. Meanwhile, this year compared to the same period a year ago, January 1-April 30, we have 7-8% more visitors."/ CNA
