Membership/ Zhulali: It is not entirely political, there are non-negotiable

The Head of the Foreign Policy Department at the Democratic Party, Ilda Zhulali, spoke about the membership process in a television appearance.

Zhulali said that membership is not a purely political process and has non-negotiable standards. She further said that membership requires a democratic country where the rule of law is respected.

 

“The accession process is political, but it is not entirely so. It has non-negotiable standards. The EU was created to unite the countries of Europe so that there would be no more war – and this requires democracy, the rule of law and a functioning market economy. The standards are not flexible. Essentially, a country must be democratic, have the ability to transform legislation and respect the rule of law,” Zhulali said./ CNA
