"3 strategic priorities in justice"/ Gogu: Criminal amnesty will

Minister of Justice, Toni Gogu, in a press conference this Tuesday, announced the three strategic priorities of the department he leads. He added that these 3 priorities were set because they are directly related to the justice reform process, but also to EU membership.

When asked by journalists, the minister focused on the criminal amnesty, which he said is awaiting evaluation by the European Commission, but which will definitely happen.

Regarding the penitentiary system, Gogu announced that over the past few months, around 450 controls and 74 security inspections have been carried out in prison institutions, with a focus on strengthening institutional discipline and security.

" It is an instrument of our penal policy that was designed to address several issues, first of all the strengthening of human rights and this has to do with the situation we have with the population in prisons. It will definitely happen. We have been very careful that in the entire process we have of advancing the country towards membership, we review the priorities according to importance. Amnesty is in parliament. After we have received the assessment for the 'Fundamentals', we will start dealing with amnesty, with the attention it deserves. In the coming days, I believe that the discussion in parliament will begin ," said Gogu./CNA
