The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has reacted through a post to the statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama during his conference in Tallinn, Estonia. Berisha writes in his reaction that Rama compared Albanians to the terrorist Taliban.

According to the leading democrat, this statement by Rama is the worst comparison that can be made to the Albanian nation in the Euro-Atlantic space.  

"A scandalous statement! Yesterday Edi Rama compared Albanians to the terrorist Taliban. In an act of insult and humiliation for every Albanian, Edi Rama yesterday at a conference in Tallinn to appear interesting stated that Albanians are the Taliban of the West. This is the most negative presentation on the political, cultural and religious level that can be made to Albanians, but also the worst service that can be done to our nation in the Euro-Atlantic space by comparing Albanians to members of a notorious terrorist organization, such as the Taliban! Shame and nothing but shame," Berisha's post reads.

These statements were made by Prime Minister Edi Rama during his visit to Estonia, at the opening panel of the "Lennart Meri" Conference, one of the international forums for security, diplomacy and the future of Europe.

Rama said that Albania's orientation towards NATO remains unwavering, while making a joke, saying that Albanians are "Western Taliban."

"Albanians are the Western Taliban. What does this mean? We are with the Transatlantic Alliance until the end, whatever happens," Rama said. /CNA
