There is a very simple way to understand the evolution of legal thought in Mero Baze's tired and miserable editorials. It is enough to read what he wrote yesterday about the arrest of Ilir Meta and then evolve and read the opposite today about the arrest of Erion Veliaj.
In his writings about Meta, Mero Baze was very clear: Justice had made a grave mistake by not arresting him in time. He even called the moment when Meta was not arrested "a symbol of the impunity of Albanian politicians."
According to him, if the rule of law were to function, the arrest of a senior politician would be the best example of impunity.
So, the standard was crystal clear, when justice arrests powerful politicians, this is a sign of the rule of law.
Then a few months passed and a strange thing happened, the justice system arrested another powerful politician, Erion Veliaj. Suddenly the theory of the man who licked Ilir Meta's shoes and then asked to participate in the medical ceremony of checking Veliaj's anus changed.
The arrest of a senior politician, who was once the "best example of impunity," turned into a problem, into an excess, into a concern about the way SPAK is operating.
In fact, Veliaj's arrest came because he was destroying evidence and was on duty, while Meta could be pursued with other security measures because he had no official duties, except for a party where only Tedi Blushi remained full-time, because Tit Vasili does not take on more than 2 hours of work a day and Haxhinasto has now passed on to Rilindja.
Let's stick to the essence and evolution of the miserable opinion of the miserable Mero. We have two very elegant standards, when Ilir Meta is arrested, justice must act and should even have done so earlier, even though he was not an official in power but simply in the opposition.
When Erion Veliaj is arrested, the justice system should be very careful, perhaps even not arresting him at all, even though he is on duty and destroying evidence.
Although now, to hide behind his finger, the "wretched" says that Meta is also being wrongly held in prison, when in fact he was seeking to be arrested without evidence or charges.
The new theory is much more practical: the symbol of impunity only applies when others are arrested, not those the wretched billionaire of the Renaissance wants.
It's not his fault, with a torn shirt and pants during Berisha's time, today he owns tens of millions of euros in his own name and that of his children. (READ HERE)
Here lies the essence of the mental conflicts that, beyond money, come from a kind of premature syndrome of old age in solitude and the abandonment that has come from the disgust that is aroused everywhere.
Not in vain, without much ado, a great legal principle was transformed into a very simple editorial rule, justice is always fair... as long as it doesn't arrest the people who pay Meron, although even Meta claims that Baze's media sloppiness has cost him quite a bit.
The reason why Ilir Meta's arrest happened today and not earlier is, of course, political. If it weren't for politics, Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha would have been brought to justice two decades ago. Sali Berisha when he was arrested by Ilir Meta in the middle of the street and dragged away, or later in Gërdec on January 21, and Ilir Meta when he appeared with voice and figure before Albanians in 2011.
If there was justice in Albania, and no political protection, the Court would arrest Ilir Meta, and he would become an example of punishment by the rule of law. After that, Sali Berisha would not be forced to kill on the boulevard for him, and then the High Court would not be forced to say that the tape of Ilir Meta does not exist, after seeing Sali Berisha having dinner until midnight at his house.
So the best moment, which could have been the best example of a politician's impunity, turned into a symbol of impunity.
The way justice buried the "Ilir Meta" case and then the January 21 murders that occurred precisely because of anger over what was happening to Ilir Meta, cemented in Albania the monument of impunity for Albanian politicians, especially those at high levels.
To further consolidate this model, Ilir Meta betrayed Sali Berisha, joined forces with Edi Rama, and seized two other high positions of power, becoming Speaker of Parliament and President of the Republic.
We all agreed that Ilir Meta should be politically amnestied.
Edi Rama accepted it, making him a political ally, society accepted it, surrendering to corruption, the DP and Berisha accepted it, who called Rama's alliance with Meta an alliance of scumbags and in 2017 made him an ally again, the justice system accepted it, which seemed to have finally given up on punishing politics.
When Sali Berisha attempted to split the Rama-Meta coalition in 2015 by raising the CEEZ DIA issue in parliament, Ilir Meta mentioned his son Shkëlzen Berisha, telling him that he had resigned from him, and would not do so again.
Fortunately, things started to change right then.
The European Union and the US decided to support the creation of a justice system in Albania to end the impunity of Albanian politics. Under strong pressure from the West and false hopes that they could catch the system on the way, Albanian politicians voted with 140 votes for the new Justice Reform.
For the sake of truth, two of the most lucid people about what awaited them at that moment were Illir Meta and Sali Berisha, who were terribly against it, but believed that their political power would grow and they would control the system they were approving.
Eight years after that vote, Albania today has an authoritarian justice institution that is bringing to justice every senior politician who comes before it. Most of them are socialists. They have accepted this reform and are naturally accepting the punishments it entails.
Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha applaud the arrests of socialists every day and then get upset because charges have also been filed against Ilir Meta and Sali Berisha.
The attempt to call their prosecution a political punishment is only true in one respect, that they have been politically protected up until now. Now there is no one to protect them politically anymore.
And even more worried are the fact that Ilir Meta's brutal arrest has not produced "civil disobedience" on the streets of Tirana. Sali Berisha, who pretends to be worried about this thing that he himself has taken from Ilir Meta, is trying to test with the arrest of Ilir Meta the reaction he will have when he is arrested. That is why he is so desperate.
After January 21, Ilir Meta was defended by Sali Berisha, who went to his house for dinner the day before the Supreme Court's decision on him. Then the two of them jointly established an investigative commission against the General Prosecutor's Office, the President, and journalists so that they would not be investigated for January 21. Then they started to take out each other's cabbages, because they had been politically divided for some time.
Now politics is no longer valid. She protected them as much as she could.
Both have been in politics since 1990, and Albania has given them everything it can give a politician, making them MPs, presidents, prime ministers, and billionaires.
Now they have the fate of facing what they have done to Albania. I know they are not ashamed of what they have done to Albania as "statesmen", but at least they should not be ashamed as "ladies' men" when their names are pronounced by the prosecutor./ CNA
