To forgive, not to forget!/ The People's Advocate who brought back the DP

Unfortunately, like many other times in this beloved but strange country, the immorality of politics won, injustice won, the business-political bargain won, the treachery of communists turned anti-communists won. Never more than ever in these days of the election of the People's Advocate, have I not remembered the work of the great writer Ismail Kadare "Ra ky mort eu pamë!"

In 1994, the enthusiasm of Albanian anti-communists who had gone through the ordeal and resistance to the Stalinist party of Enver Hoxha more than any other people in Europe, with a tragic balance of human losses, with thousands of lost family members, with hundreds of suffering in extermination camps, with children disappearing, from the terrible camp of Tepelena, to Këlmendi Preng Calit!

In the midst of this political and social enthusiasm, the anti-communists addressed the leadership of the Democratic Party of Albania, documenting the communist crime that political prisoners were treated in the infamous Spaç camp, like medieval slaves, extracting millions of tons of copper and pyrite under the whip of Enver Hoxha's terrorist executioners, and were not paid financially. Based on international conventions on human rights and freedoms, we demanded a law that recognized unpaid work!

But the leadership of the DP, not because it did not receive our request well, but with a communist mentality, used violence against the hunger strike of these freedom eagles! A signal that this political force had no anti-communist tendencies and was not at all conservative. The icon of anti-communism, Prof. Sami Repishti, would condemn this brutal action of the Democratic Party that the anti-communists had supported, and had brought to power as the first swallow of freedom.

The DP was pleased that Enver Hoxha's dictatorial party changed its name from the Party of Labor of Albania to the Socialist Party, where the game was played in the Congress Palace, with a decor of artists playing the game of squash, Dritëro Agolli called for us to change to socialists and break away from Enverism, on the other podium Kadri Roshi turned his back on Dritëro, for this request and in the box dictator Ramiz Alia applauded this puppet theater.

From the Union archives, my collaborators brought me documents to the office, images of the violence that the government of that time exercised against the hunger strike of political prisoners and my resignation as Chief of Staff of the National Committee in defense of the hunger strike of 1994, how the army with tanks suppressed the strike of political prisoners by the government of the Democratic Party, the first opposition party. It was a shame, and an irresponsibility of a political force that had declared itself anti-communist! This was the first rift between the DP and the Albanian anti-communists.

Did this event have consequences? So much so that the balances of society were disrupted and it led the DP towards losing power, so much so that it brought the black year of 1997 when the Enverist gangs took up arms against democracy with the help of pyramid companies, and a hatred was created towards the north to the extent that every night the Enverists in Vlora chanted the verses of Dritëro Agolli that he had dedicated to Xan Caushi, a murderous rebel, "Robin Huti of Labëria will eradicate the maloku of Malsia" and the second civil war of the twentieth century took place with the objective of the anti-Albanian circles to antagonize the Albanians of the south against the north!

The senior leaders of the Socialist Party turned Vlora into a center of rebellion against the Democratic Party just because it was led by a northerner. The anti-Albanian circles that operated and led the Socialist Party, this Enverist party that was ready to burn Albania just to take power, were wrong. But the northerners, even though they saw macabre scenes in Vlora sucking the blood of state employees, just because he was a northerner, refused to continue the war and hatred against their southern brothers!

And amidst the bullets, the Socialist Party came to power, defending the Enverist ideology and destroying the democratic system by voting amidst the bullets! The state fell, under the rule of the Enverists, and Europe mocked the Albanian politicians who sought protection from Europe so that the Enverists could come to power!

Albanian anti-communists, despite the DP's attitude towards the rights and freedoms of the politically persecuted, defended this political force from assimilation, gave the martyrs of democracy in defense of the Albanian state and the democratic government led by Dr. Berisha, Besnik Hidri, and Lek Çoku were killed in Vlora in defense of the Albanian state, Kujtim Frangu was killed in Lis i Mati in defense of the DP's votes by the executioners of the SP, Ali Uka and Astrit Kalenja, were killed in the DP protests in defense of freedom in Tirana.

Today this party does not even mention their names, nor their ancestors who are over 6000 missing! In every TV appearance, the PS mentions the 4 killed on January 21, accusing the DP! But why is the DP silent about its martyrs who were killed by the PS, 1997-1998!

The DP has forgotten the anti-communist martyrs who gave their lives to defend this political force, it has forgotten the crimes of communism, which these Albanians who represent 40% of the Albanian people faced, it remembers that it has created an electorate from the power it had, and joins the silence of the renaissance communists who want to erase the dictatorial past that the politically persecuted and Albanian owners went through. Where is this party that has been defining its political and ideological identity for 35 years!

Year 2025 The United States of America gave strong signals in condemning the crimes of communism, the American Congress legally introduced the crimes of communism into the school curricula. Despite our request to the parliament, our representative DP joined the silence of the communist renaissance. On November 2, 2025, President Donald Trump's Proclamation was issued declaring "Anti-Communist Week". The DP remained silent and did not greet this global proclamation for the condemnation of the crimes of communism!

And finally, on December 11, 2025, the DP was trying to get a constitutional institution for the politically persecuted, the "People's Advocate", and here it made a secret agreement with the SP and sent a socialist who led a Marxist-Leninist political force to that institution, and silently passed over the candidacy of the representative of the politically persecuted, which Dr. Berisha had been presenting as an opposition candidate for the entire year!

35 opposition MPs were discredited before the Albanians, among them were MPs who came from the class of the politically persecuted, and these MPs neither blushed nor turned pale but chose shame before the nation as traitors to the cause of their families, simply for a fat salary. The DP has not spoken about the crimes of communism for 35 years, which does not mean it is anti-communist, but continues the populism of the 90s, a totally failed ideological current, and in contradiction with the US policy of war against the extreme left!

I am aware that the majority that killed and imprisoned me for 50 years would be forced to vote if the Democratic Party blocked the parliament and declared publicly that only anti-communists would lead the "People's Advocate", unfortunately the Democratic Party could not do this because it had eaten the soup of the agreement. I forget the desolate political force that we have been voting for for 35 years. Shame on this political force that kneels in front of the criminal party that has disappeared 6,000 Albanians without graves, that imprisoned and killed 38,000 political prisoners.

Unimaginable.

The freedom we speak of every day was violated, democracy faded, the persecuted were re-convicted, the honest man did not emerge from this polluted swamp of communist politics represented by two parties that lack democracy but have a vision of Albania being run by the executioners of communism.

But for my mission, I am proud that I lost the trust of those who are bought and sold, who make deals, who do not respect their voters, of those whose supporters call enemies and as such should not be in high state institutions.

But I have earned the respect of thousands of people by working for them, helping them as much as I could, and fighting for their rights and freedoms.

I have earned the moral right to remain strong, aware of the mission but also aware that the fight for human rights is long with obstacles but it is a mission that has no end.

The political assassination that took place on December 11, 2025 motivates me not to retreat from the cause of freedom, I thank those who supported and helped me, and I swear to you that I will defend freedom and democracy from the communist invasion of Albanian politics, led by two communist parties that sell themselves as democratic, but as a mission, they have the communist ideology to lead our beloved Albania and killed by this ideology for 80 years, I will maintain a manly stance towards those who gave me hope but disappointed me.
