1.7 million tourists from Kosovo? Kosovo has a total of 1.6 million

In the last few days, a news circulated in the media about 1.7 million tourists who had come here from Kosovo in the first 6 months. The news referred to the figures of the Ministry of Tourism for the 6-month period, without analyzing or cross-checking them with the INSTAT figures.

Coincidentally, at the same time, the figures of the Kosovo Census were also published, according to which only 1.6 million citizens live in Kosovo. So, 100 thousand less than they had come, according to the news above, for tourism in Albania...

If the journalists who drafted the above news had compared the monthly figures of the Ministry of Tourism with those of INSTAT, they would have found that the figures are the same but their names differ from one institution to another. Thus, INSTAT reports every month the number of entries of foreign citizens. While the Ministry of Tourism reports the same figure as the number of tourists who visited our country in that month.

Consequently, some entries here of the same citizen of Kosovo, for example, the Ministry of Tourism reports as some tourists from Kosovo who have visited Albania. And so, 1.7 million entries here with Kosovar passports, in the report of the Ministry of Tourism, translates into 1.7 million Kosovar tourists who visited Albania during a 6-month period. While Kosovo has a total of 1.6 million inhabitants...

In order not to create such paradoxes, the Ministry of Tourism should adhere to the official INSTAT terminology. Thus, in order to calculate how many holiday visits were made by foreign citizens, those for transit or business purposes must be deducted from the total item "Entry of foreign citizens" (consisting of 6.1% of the total in the first 5 months). So the Ministry of Tourism should only report visits for vacation purposes./ CNA
