"Paddington" dominates "WhatsOnStage" awards/ How a

"Paddington The Musical" has dominated the WhatsOnStage Awards, winning nine awards following its triumphant West End launch last year.

The show, based on the original children's books by Michael Bond and the recent film adaptations, was a huge hit with fans and received rave reviews from critics after its debut at the Savoy Theatre in November.

The nine famous bear trophies are the most ever awarded for a new musical and equal the joint record previously set by Harry Potter.

Reflecting on this year's winners, "WhatsOnStage" representatives said that voters really cared about that Bear.

"Paddington's record award wins have cemented this character as a new fan favourite in the West End," they told the BBC.

The animated comedy film "Paddington" is a Franco-British production, first released in 2014, directed by Paul King.

The "WhatsOnStage" awards, held at the London Palladium, have been held since 2001 and are voted on by a wide audience./ CNA
