Today, the great writer Ismail Kadare celebrates his 88th birthday. The analyst and journalist Luan Rama describes him as the writer who, with his work, gave us freedom where we could escape.

Albanians, as a people and as a nation, have never before in all the times since they were born and settled in this part of the globe, another writer more famous in the world than Ismail Kadare.

With his work he created the European Albania, gave us the opportunity to know the Albania of our dreams, the one we wanted to be, which of course was more beautiful than the Albania that was and is more beautiful than the Albania that is.

Thus, giving us European Albania at a time when just thinking about it was more than blasphemy, our Kadare brought us with his work as much as Europe within us; Europe as a dimension of freedom and a monument of values, where everyone could "escape" without fearing that they could be killed or arrested at the border, without the need for a passport. The only passport you needed was to read Kadare's work.

The uniqueness of being on this "journey" where Europe came among us as a measure of freedom and Albania went to Europe as a European Albania, makes Kadare one of the most unique writers in the world, whose name makes the name of his country, while within his own country, he becomes a marathon runner who keeps the hope of freedom alive by tirelessly proving to us that we are Europeans as much as Albanians.

If "De Rada returned Albanian literature to the European orientation, which Albanian literature was losing", as Kadareja himself said, our great writer gave Albanian literature a European passport, made it a natural and dignified part of European literature and world.

Translated into more than 50 languages ??of the world, the work of Ismail Kadare is considered today as a literary phenomenon of contemporary world literature.

Albanian in every letter and word and universal in terms of values, the work of Ismail Kadare is also one of the biggest contributors to the enrichment of the Albanian language, the consolidation of the linguistic norm and the manifestation of its dynamics and tendencies to accept trends with elegance and the developments that time imposes.

Writers are the ones who create the norm or standard of a language. Linguists codify it. Therefore, the Kadare fund, in the entirety of the lexical, morphological and syntactic wealth of the Albanian language, will forever remain a precious contribution as valuable as his entire work in the golden fund of our national literature and culture.

Ismail Kadare is the only Albanian writer (and probably one of the few in the world) who, being alive, manages to have and live a full 70 years of creativity since his first work. This is also another record of Kadare, whose greatest record is the height where he established the name of Albanian literature and culture in the world.
