They were caught with 585 kilograms of drugs/ 5 Albanians are sentenced to life

The Criminal Appeal Court of Thessaloniki imposed life imprisonment and additional temporary sentences of 8 to 15 years for each of the five defendants who were arrested last September for the amount of 585 kilograms of cocaine seized by the National Police, east of Thessaloniki .

The court sentenced a 52-year-old man, his 43-year-old wife, their two grandchildren (22 and 34 years old), as well as a 36-year-old man for this case, after finding them guilty of aggravated drug trafficking and criminal organization (in leadership and membership case). All the convicts are Albanian citizens, with the exception of the 36-year-old, who has Greek citizenship, but originates from the neighboring country.

It was the largest amount of cocaine seized by law enforcement authorities in the city and one of the largest in Greek territory.

According to the authorities' estimates, the illegal goods originating from Latin America would bring profits from 11 to 33 million euros to the traffic network if it ended up in the wholesale market, while in the retail market, after counterfeiting and "breaking ” in smaller doses, the profit can even reach 175 million euros./ CNA
